"Don't wish me happiness I don't expect to be happy all the time....It's gotten beyond that somehow. Wish me courage and strength and a sense of humor. I will need them all." Anne Morrow Lindbergh

A disconnect and a ladybug

I was weeding a flowerbed when I saw spring's first ladybug. The little red and black bug was sitting quietly on the green leaf in the warm sunshine. What was it doing? I showed it to my daughter; and then I put it on my finger. The lady bug ran down it and flew away. Spring beauty has me wide-eyed, open for more. I don't own a TV or computer nor do I read newspapers or time magazine. I could read the news off my smart phone but I don't. For the last several days the screen has been frozen on my phone and I wasn't able to use it. It's working now but I spent several days disconnected. I don't know that it mattered. My days activities are rotated around the weather, tides and in the winter by the amount of daylight. Weekends I turn on CBC radio to listen to an arts program and I get the news on there. That is enough. I hear about the violence and the suffering in the world and it makes me cry. Somehow like this ladybug I would like to create a little beauty in this world. I'm thankful my phone is working again and since I don't have a ladybug picture for you I'm showing you a blossom from my Mt. Hood daffodil's.

  1. I wondered where you were! Your ladybug story reminds me of the childhood poem- Ladybug-Ladybug- Fly away home- Your house is on fire and your children are gone. Especially when you connected ti to bad news in the world. So true! I should listen to the news a lot less than I do. My youngest son and I are both news hounds...and will call and discuss the "news" sometimes. It's a sickness, I think. I grew up sitting on my dad's lap reading the newspaper from my earliest memories. He taught me to read from a newspaper. lol When I went off to first grade I was the only kid that could actually read. lol

Your flower is just gorgeous and I HOPE your phone doesn't freeze up again.

In our busy, dizzy lives - the way you live sounds idealistic to a lot of us! Unplugged and happy! xo Diana

    1. You are so sweet Diana! I think the important thing that I want everyone to know is that I'm not going to just disappear unannounced unless something happens like this.

  2. I hear ya about the disconnect. I only come in the morning to CONNECT with people like you, people who wonder and wander in their imaginations and in nature. The world is becoming an even harsher place because of the over exposure of the evil and violence, and it leaves us helpless.

Take notes from a ladybug.....that is a brilliant way to live.

  3. Hi, Ronda! I used to be a news junkie but one day I started putting myself in the place of those in the news, those being reported on and all of a sudden I couldn't stand it anymore. Once we realize that this stuff is real, not a movie, that these are real people, I think it gets harder to tolerate. So much pain and cruelty in the world. Why fill our heads with it every day? It's bad enough that it happens at all. Plus, I think those who want to become infamous are probably doing evil acts mainly for the attention it brings them from the media. It's a vicious cycle. Why be a part of that? You are a wise young woman to keep that stuff at arm's length.

  4. Missed you. Glad you are back, Ronda. I so often wish I could disconnect from all the problems of the world. I don't watch tv news at all, but I do read the paper. XO Laura

  5. What an idyllic life you lead -- I know that's not exactly true because your lifestyle requires a great deal of work and strength on your part. But to us out here in this dizzying space we call home, it seems almost inconceivable in this day and age that you are in such a peaceful and pleasant place. There is so much evil and destruction going on around us that it is almost unbearable. Where, oh where, is the good news? I know it is with God and that is my lifeline.

  6. Again, a great post.
The news is something we listen to once a day or will look a few stories up on line.
    It can be very depressing!
    We strive to stay positive!
Thank you for another great post.

  7. Beautiful post Ronda - just love the thought that you live by the tides, and the daylight hours - how amazing is that! We live a very simple life here not too far from you, but not quite as remote either. I have learned too to enjoy the simple lessons that are around us moment by moment, and too - the world has always been a bad place, it is just that now we have the means to hear about what happened around the world seconds after it happened, whereas many years ago, it might take years to hear about something far away. We are on information overload, and we really can't handle it. I think your lifestyle, while difficult in its own right, allows you to savor and enjoy the simple things of life more fully. May many more ladybugs come to visit you soon :) Hugs to you today!
