A woodshed

In early April I discovered the last of my double tarped firewood was wet. Somehow a trickle of water had gotten in with the winter rains. Most of the wood was ok but some of it was quite wet. I quickly moved all of it into the roofless woodshed that I have been building and put a piece of plastic over the wood. The woodshed is located in a very sunny spot in my yard and I knew it would dry out much quicker there than the shaded spot where it had been. The weather has changed now and I rarely find the need to light any fires in the woodstove. Yesterday I completely finished framing the woodshed although the metal roof is not on. I will order that the next time I buy lumber. Until then I will be putting plastic over the framed roof. It's been a long dusty haul to get to this point but my heart and eyes lift graciously to the eternal God for his gracious blessings.

  1. That is an impressive structure you have there, Ronda. Your building skills are amazing. I don't think I could do anything like that with popsicle sticks, never mind heavy wood that I would need to haul, cut, lift and secure. I hope your wood dries out soon, but it's nice to hear that the fires aren't really necessary right now. Yay spring!! :)

    1. Hi Kim The wood is dry - we've had so much sun. I built this with a handsaw and bow saw but the hardest part were the posts. The ten foot long six by six posts were eighty pounds each. Getting them to the site and in and out of the holes was physically hard. I'm happy with it now - it's what I wanted. I like the large span between the posts. A side bonus of this project is that my daughter is starting to learn to use a hammer. I think building is a great skill for girls to learn. Thanks for stopping by! Ronda

  2. Wow, I'm impressed Ronda, as always! A handsaw and a bow saw? Wow, wow wow! I know how much work a handsaw is and how heavy those posts are! The beautiful structure you've created will last for a long time, and all winter long you will be able to enjoy the wood heat without worrying about a fire because of damp wood. I know you're so happy to have it almost done. And awesome too that your daughter is learning these skills so young! You'll have a fine helper very soon! :)

    1. I'm not sure that I actually enjoy building. What I do love is the rural lifestyle. I am glad this project is over for now and that I can spend time doing something else that hopefully is more enjoyable. Ronda
